I don't think so as the problem is partly solved by turning the roller 90⁰. As you say, if it were the roller I would then have faint lines running side to side as well as up and down.
Just make a frisket and build the areas with tissue one sheet at a time. Perfectly sensible approach to printing water anyway… 😬

I do have to remind myself no-one is going to die if I make a mistake, and the challenge/stress is entirely self-inflicted 😳
