Just after we moved to West Wales, I was in the little local second-hand bookshop with my friend who lives here. As I came downstairs he said, "Janey, I'd like you to meet Jan Morris". An elderly woman put her hand out to shake mine, and I, gob-smacked, gibbered "What THE Jan Morris?!" She laughed and replied something like "Yes, I suppose so..."
Every time I hear her name now, I think "What THE Jan Morris?!"
Sadly no...by the time I picked myself up from the floor she had left. I was carrying an armful of poetry books - had I had a copy of Conundrum with me the meeting would have been perfect!
You're welcome - I had to deliberately stick 'Light Rains' on the shelf for that photo because in reality it has been on the coffee table since February as I work my way through it again. Meanwhile husband is finally reading 'Taking Flight' on Kindle ("He's a good writer, isn't he?") and I will be steering him towards 'Tangled Bank' next.
Thank you Jane. I will follow up your recommendations as Winter makes reading more sustaining when I can't get outdoors for my daily dose of nature. AA
What a lovely post this was to read. Clay was the first novel of hers I read and was astonished by it.
Yes 'astonished' is a very good word.
I finally bought Light Rains Sometimes Fall and I’m so enjoying ready each little chapter on the right date through the year
It's lovely, isn't it?

So sorry I missed this comment when you posted it. How exciting! Did you have any further conversation?

Ah well, on the plus side, no time for you to embarrass yourself. (I’m sure you wouldn’t have, but it’s the sort of thing I do).
Oh I would have!!
Ha! I LOVE it when you're rude to me. NEVER STOP x
Well if you insist...
Seconded (and thanks for the shoutout)

I hope you enjoy these writers as much as I do, Angela ☺
