Hello
Just a very quick update with this newsletter - in fact it’s so quick it’s more of a placeholder, just so you know I’m still here.
When I last wrote I showed you the first carving of a new reduction linoprint. So far I’ve got three layers down which you can see below. My original plan said there would be seven layers but that has of course already increased to eight. (Update - after lying awake thinking about this maybe I can do seven after all).
The ochre colour you see in the third layer will be almost obliterated by subsequent layers, remaining only as tiny patches, glints and a few rocks.
Recommended listening
While I’ve been carving this linoprint I’ve been listening to an extraordinary podcast by journalist Tristan Redman. ‘Ghost Story’ is part true crime, part ghost story, part family history and part psychology. It is not only fascinating but brilliantly produced - combining top notch documentary narrative with drama and music (and having a Hollywood actor in the family to do some of the readings definitely helps). I’ve really enjoyed it; do give it a try. (That’s if you haven’t heard it already, which you probably have as I am apparently one of the last people in the world to have discovered it).
Save the dates
As I write this, the directories for this year’s York Open Studios are at the printers and I have just finished collating and organising all the artists’ requests for signage and assembling the other marketing materials they need. The event runs over two weekends in April, 13th-14th and 20th-21st. I will be opening my studio which is Venue 19 on this year’s trail. Full information about all the artists taking part is here.
As some readers know I am stepping down from my role as one of the organisers of YOS after 10 years. I’ve also made the decision that I won’t be taking part as an artist next year as I would like to find out what it feels like to enjoy the arrival of spring without the event dominating my every thought…. So this might be the last chance to visit my studio for a couple of years at least.
I will of course still be here and on Instagram, continuing to show you my printmaking studio via the wonders of the internet.
See you again soon

Your work is so painstakingly detailed Jane. So much work goes into each step. BTW thanks for the recommendation on Wondery .... fascinating - up to Episode 4 and loving it!
