Hello and a happy new year
I had expected that the work in progress I showed you last time would be finished before Christmas, but I did mention then that I was probably asking for trouble by saying that. And indeed I was. Three unexpected visits to the vet later plus emails in the week before Christmas from people suddenly remembering urgent things they had meant to ask me to do, meant the studio was largely abandoned. But the last layer of this reduction linoprint finally went down on 28th December, making it definitely the last print to have 2023 written under it. The subject is the lighthouse at Peggy’s Cove in Nova Scotia, which I have visited a couple of times, the most recent trip being last September.
This ended up being a bit of an epic - 14 different ink mixes printed in 12 layers (that’s 24 stages of carving and printing).
Here’s a wobbly little montage showing how those layers built up.
The eagle eyed among you might spot that at one point in the above video two layers are added at once, because being a bit distracted I forgot to take a photo after the 10th layer before printing the 11th one. In case you feel you are missing out here’s another video filmed as I was printing that missing 10th layer.
The finished print is now in my shop. I hope you like it. It’s a limited edition of 10 and the image size is 30 x 20 cm.
And so it begins
The first print of 2024 is underway - which is to say I have drawn out the rough image and started carving. My plan suggests this should be just seven layers, which of course means it will be at least eight.
Thank you as always for reading and I hope to see you again.
Jane
Lovely print. What patience and persistence creating these prints requires. Respect. AA
