Hello
A couple of newsletters ago I explained that that edition of Dapple Scrumping was a print-free zone because I was working on a print which would be a gift, and it was therefore obviously secret. Well the gift has now been presented so I can show you what I was doing.
This was part of a collaborative gift for a much loved member of our local printmakers’ group who was stepping down from her role on the committee. The brief was to contribute a print no larger than A5 and it was needed at quite short notice, so the print is not only smaller than my usual pieces but also much simpler being made in just four layers. I had the idea for the image when I was watching the ornamental carp at Burnby Hall Gardens swimming just under the surface on a bright autumn day, and noticed how strongly graphic the shadows created were.
Here’s a very short (24 seconds) video showing how the layers built up.
This was, as usual, a reduction linoprint, and I made just four prints in total in a variable edition. The remaining three are now available in my shop.
A reminder of recommended last order dates for Christmas, should that be relevant to your plans.
Standard delivery - Friday 15th December
First class post (upgrade at checkout) - Monday 18th December
The shop will close for orders on the morning of Tuesday 19th December
Progress report
If you follow me on Instagram you might have seen a short reel I posted yesterday evening with the latest stage of the tricky reduction linoprint I showed you in the last newsletter. The lighthouse and background are finished now and I’ve put the first layer down on the foreground. From now on the remaining layers should be much more straightforward. (That spluttering noise was the goddess Hybris/Hubris spitting out her tea).
Well that’s all for now. I hope you are keeping calm while all around are losing their Christmas minds and that you are looking forward to the seasonal stuff.
All the best
Jane
That lighthouse print is looking spectacular....I'd expect nothing less! :D
