Hello
Just a quick update to say I survived two weekends of York Open Studios and am almost back to thinking straight. A HUGE thank you to everyone who visited and brought with them such wonderful, often fascinating conversations. One visitor expressed sympathy for the challenge of welcoming people for four days, but as I said to her, the plus side is I get to meet LOADS of interesting strangers without even leaving my house. The icing on the cake is when some of them give me money and take away things I’ve made while sitting (or standing) here in the studio on my own, and a gratifying number of them did. Yes it is exhausting, and I don’t think I could do more than two weekends, but it is very rewarding.
Anyway, I thought I’d show you where I am up to with the print I started carving during the open studios weekends. I’ve now printed four layers and right now it looks AWFUL. The next layer should start to make the image clearer and it will begin to look less like a mess of splodges. As I said in the heading, trust me, I’m a printmaker.
My online shop is now very depleted and my studio walls are even emptier, so I must get some more framing done before my next event, but only a couple of editions have sold out completely so there are still at least one or two prints of most recent editions to be had. The coasters I showed you at the beginning of the month are now in the Gifts and Home section. Stocks are very limited as they were quite a success at Open Studios. The new card designs I showed you are also now available in the Greetings Cards section.
I’ll be back when I have some progress to show you. I want to get this print finished before workmen arrive to tear my house to pieces in a couple of weeks. It’s all going to be a bit stressful, and noisy, and dirty, but by the end of June, maybe even in time for my birthday, I should have a functioning central heating system and a sensibly laid out kitchen with appliances that work. In the absence of much going on in the studio I might keep you updated with some before and after photos. Would that be of interest? You can look on in either envy or horror depending on how it goes.
Wish me luck, and until next time
Jane
Congratulations, especially having to worry about the organisational side of the OS. It will be our turn soon with the NYOS in June. There are almost as many artists exhibiting in NYOS as you had for YOS!
Definitely interested in upcoming pictures of your works as opposed to your work which I'm always interested in. I cannot imagine how you work out what is going to come next with your prints. Amazing!
